Where top smartphone brands including the techies Samsung, LG Electronics, Sony Xperia and HTC are offering smartphones amounting to nearly half a lakh, they are also considering targeting the pocket friendly market under 10k. The HTC Desire 210's recent launch in India, apparently the cheapest from the HTC house impresses us with its sleek designs and smart pricing.
HTC Desire 210
While the grand-papa HTC One M8 @ (Rs 49,900) hits the Indian stores soon in May, the Taiwanese manufacturer has smartly launched its dual-sim mid-range smartphones over the last month, namely Desire 310 @ (Rs10,799), 501 @ (Rs 16,900) and 601 @ (Rs20,499).
Entering the under 10 k mark, the HTC Desire 210 is a welcome move, surely when most of the country is crying of the rising prices everywhere! Although globally launched, the Desire 210 would start shipping come this May 2nd and should be available in India within the early days of the month.
Design and looks
Unlike its flagship HTC One, the Desire 210 does not boast front speakers, but its 4 inch WVGA (854 x 480 pixels) TFT display over its matt finish plastic subtle body gives it a decent look on the hand. At 130 grams the phone is not too heavy given its sleekness at 10.5 mm.

Specs and features-Running on the Android 4.2 OS, coupled with its own Sense User Interface, the software of the Desire 210 fortunately supportsBlinkfeed, an exclusive HTC feature showing updates on the home screen. Although dual sim support is enabled, the phone comes with one Micro and one mini sim slots. Speaking of its hardware, the Desire 210 is packed with a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek (MT6572M) processor coupled with 512MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. Its dual camera (front 5 mp and rear VGA) is a bit disappointing with no LED flash and HD recording. Also a battery power of 1300 mAh is a put off considering the Android and Blinkfeed drawing all the energy in no span of time.
Price and Competition- Quoted as the cheapest HTC smartphone at Rs 8700 launching price, the Desire 210 is a cheap buy, but considering the tough market competitions, the phone would need better upgrades to woo the masses! Talking about competition, more than a dozen of smartphones are available at similar (or lesser) prices offering similar (or better) features and specs including Micromax Juice, Sony Xperia E1 Dual, Nokia X and Xolo A510.
Bottom-line- Although the phone looks sleek and stylish, its specs have nothing exclusive to offer apart from Blinkfeed and its own Sense user interface. If you are a loyal HTC fan (or wanting a brand valued smartphone) and considering an economic phone, the Desire 210 is a sure shot pick.
