Former Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) employee Bruce Tognazzini recently shared his unique perspective on Apple’s ability to innovate and what products he thinks the California-based company may soon release during arecent appearance on CNBC. As noted by CNBC, Tognazzini was Apple employee No. 66 and designed Apple’s first human interface. According to Tognazzini’s AskTog website, the renowned inventor holds fifty-seven patents in the “areas of human-computer interaction, aviation, radar, eye-tracking, flat panel display information presentation, GPS, portable calendaring, and photography.”
Although Apple has yet to confirm the existence of a wrist-worn wearable tech device, Tognazzini emphatically told CNBC that, “The iWatch is coming and it will be transformative.” However, Tognazzini was less certain about the rumored Apple TV product with expanded features and new types of content. “The Apple TV is a little up in the air,” observed Tognazzini. “Their strategy — it appeared — was to line up all the content providersand it’s not clear that they’ve have had much luck with that because of existing contracts and pushback.”
Tognazzini appeared to be referencing a Wall Street Journal report that Apple was in talks with Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC), Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA), and DirecTV (NASDAQ:DTV) in 2012 over the possibility of creating a unified interface for television programming through Apple TV. However, according to the Wall Street Journal, Apple was having difficulty reaching a deal with DirecTV and Comcast. Apple’s negotiation difficulties may have been compounded when Comcast announced earlier this month that it was acquiring Time Warner Cable for approximately $45.2 billion.
