Nokia Announces Acer Iconia W4 – An Affordable Windows 8.1 Pocket Rocket

Windows 8.1 has made its long-awaited debut and is expected to trigger a wave of new and exciting hardware launches. Right out of the gate comes the Acer Iconia W4, which has the potential to be a pretty strong seller with admirable specs and features along with that new and improved Windows 8.1 OS, all for a surprisingly agreeable price.
Kicking off with the external features of the thing, the Acer Iconia W4 sports an 8-inch display panel that’s good for 1,280 by 800 resolution, a 5-megapixel primary camera to the rear and a 2-megapixel sensor up-front for video calling. Connectivity is covered in spades with a micro-USB port, micro-HDMI, micro-SD slot and more.
Under the hood you’ll find a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Silvermont CPU, which isn’t exactly show-stopping but will on all likelihood get the job done just fine. The Acer Iconia W4 weighs in at a svelte 0.91 pounds, is around 11mm deep at its thickest area and on the whole looks the part.
Upping the appeal of the Acer Iconia W4 is the extensive range of peripherals and accessories that are likely to score the slate plenty of brownie-points across both consumer and corporate markets. There a unique stylus, a new Keyboard Cover, a power bank and the impressive Crunch Keyboard – a faux leather case that doubles as a stand and triples as a keyboard.
The package includes Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 as standard, while storage options come in at 64GB and 32GB. Sadly, take home the 32GB model and once Windows 8.1 and the rest of the software has taken up residence on the drive, you’ll actually come out with closer to 12GB of closet space – not exactly generous.
So Acer Iconia W4 shapes up to be a reasonable package of mid-range specs and excellent versatility, but chances are that for a starting price of $330 for the 32GB model it will garner some serious interest upon its release.
Speaking of which, Acer hasn’t yet confirmed the official launch date for the Iconia W4, but promised it will arrive before the end of the month.
